Job Specification

Job Purpose

· The coating technician ensures, by permanent and visible presence on site, that Contractor is safely, properly and timely building the scope of work as per Company specifications, design and codes.

· The technician, respectively, is responsible for the day-to-day supervision and witness of activities for structural and riser coating, TSA and cathodic protection during the Construction carried out by contractor or subcontractors. He monitors, instructs, corrects and reports the working practices of Contractor as necessary

· He ensures that all his scope of work is completed in accordance with safety and quality standards applicable.

Key Job Accountabilities

The technician assists the Company superintendents during day to day activities, inspections, technical audits and qualification processes of Contractors and subcontractors. He checks all painting parameters and all systems comply with those approved by COMPANY for that particular painting activity. If not, the technician shall stop the work and inform immediately his manager

The technician permanently witnesses the surface preparation, salt contamination, blasting medium, overcoat time and DFT (Dry Film Thickness) measurement or any other control of work carried out by Contractor as required in the Inspection and Test Plan.He verifies that paint, TSA or galvanisation repairs are carried out and controlled as per the approved procedure. He checks that daily logs are prepared by Contractor.

The technician keeps an updated list of approved applicators, sandblasters and painters.The technician respectively checks that all painters performing coating activities, all coating parameters approved by COMPANY are correct and recorded. If not, the technician shall stop the work and inform immediately his manager.

The technician respectively checks that only agreed consumables, tools and test equipment are properly stored,used, preserved, maintained and provided with valid certificates. He ensures that traceability of material is implemented.He reviews the material certificates of the anodes.

For any quality issues that he notices, the technician shall immediately inform the quality manager and his superintendent as well. He may issue a NCR upon request from his manager. He follows up in the resolution of NCR relevant to his area, expedite for implementation of corrective and preventive actions.He reports lessons learned when applicable.

The technician assists the superintendent or QC lead for all notified inspections related to coating or cathodic protection. He inspects, fills inspection reports or task-sheets, raises punch items, inspects and tracks completed punch items for the relevant manager’s signature. Each technician reviews and signs inspection reports from Contractor on behalf of COMPANY and maintains a file of copies.He assist and reviews the final dossier for all matters related to his discipline. He ensures that the coating guarantee certificates is obtain.

The technician monitors the work progress from work-order control index to final inspection for his area. He carefully anticipate the release of each item to paint shop and he lists all outstanding work and provides an estimated percentage of outstanding items to prepare for his superintendent’s signature. He highlight to his manager potential or actual delays or resources.

The technician ensure the Company specifications, construction drawings, procedures, plans, ITP, are perfectly known to him, for proper implementation. He reviews coating and cathodic protection procedures and drawings to ensure the correct system/nodes are applied at the right areas . He approves the Contractor’s coating procedures. He shall ensure that the latest revision of documents is used on site. He obtains and uses the necessary shop drawings. He reports to his superintendent any inconsistency he notices.

The technician respectively ensures that accepted modifications are implemented as per revised drawings.

The technician adheres to, promotes and follows the HSE company policy. He stops work when he witness unsafe activities. He ensures that HSE requirements are complied to including subcontractors in his area.

He ensures the coating work minimize the impact on the environment in line with project requirements.

Each technician assist the trainees to develop their project skills and experience while being on site.


Person Specification – Minimum Requirements

Qualifications

· Bachelor’s degree, Post Graduate Diploma, Professional Degree, or equivalent.

· Nace 3 or Frosio 3

Knowledge and/or Experience

· 10+ years of experience in coating (paint and TSA) inspection of offshore structures (jackets with cathodic protection) on major offshore projects

· 10+ years of experience for Rubber and FBE coating inspection on high pressure piping, including preservation.

· Experience with EPC contractors, sub-contractors and vendors involved in the oil and gas industry in the country of fabrication.

· Ability to understand, correct and implement the inspection and test plan for coating activities

· Ability to understand each paint suppliers product and contact paint suppliers for specific advise on their products.

· Ability to read/understand/correct drawings and provide advise on coating procedures.

· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a focus on teamwork and the ability to communicate and interact in a multicultural environment. Ability to prepare a daily report.

· Valid Bosiet is a plus.

Technical and Business Skills

· Very good knowledge of coating standards.Familiar with main paint suppliers.

· A good proficiency in written and spoken English.

· Ability to effectively communicate on a daily basis with the local personnel without translation.

· Computer literacy involving the regular use of professional office applications and some technical applications
