Transportation Business Manager, BC & Yukon Region in CA-BC-Burnaby, Canada

The Opportunity

The Transportation business sector in BC and Yukon is set for incredible growth over the next 10 years, attracting major federal, provincial and municipal investment measured in the tens of billions. Wood is looking for an experienced Transportation Manager take on the role of Transportation Business Manager and the challenge of helping Wood deliver these complex and exciting projects and to be a part of changing the transportation landscape in the region.

As a member of the management team, you will lead all aspects of the transportation business across the British Columbia and Yukon region. Your responsibilities will include business development, client account management, strategic business planning, and business unit resourcing. In addition to these functional responsibilities you will bring a strong understanding of the design and construction management of transportation infrastructure projects as well as experience in current procurement processes such as P3, EPCM and Design Build along with the more traditional procurement models.

Responsible for identifying business development opportunities for the Transportation Infrastructure Business, you can influence others and command attention by leveraging your depth of experience in business development and client account management within this sector.

One of your primary responsibilities will be as Woods Client Account Manager for TransLink and BC Ministry for Transportation and Infrastructure. Success in this area means a direct role in developing and maintaining relationships with key persons in these client organizations as well as many other similar client organizations such as BC Ferries to identify and position Wood for future opportunities and securing and delivering projects across the region.

The transportation group within the Burnaby office has extensive, long standing experience with many provincial and municipal clients and you will have the opportunity to work with staff members that are well respected in the industry with in-depth knowledge of the transportation engineering sector. With transportation teams in multiple Canadian offices, you will also promote Woods transportation sector capabilities across all regions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain close relationships with key Transportation clients and decision makers in all aspects of Transportation Infrastructure;
  • Develop and grow the Wood brand in the regional Transportation Infrastructure sector;
  • Manage the planning and design work for transportation infrastructure projects;
  • Responsible for the management of project budgets, schedules and resourcing;
  • Provide senior level review of engineering project deliverables;
  • Mentor, supervise and provide performance feedback to the Transportation team;
  • Oversee the preparation and review of contract and tender documents;
  • Lead the preparation of proposal and qualification documents;
  • Closely monitor client expectations and actual results delivered to clients;
  • Identify and develop new business opportunities; and
  • Lead public open houses or presentations to councils, administration and the general public as required.


Skills / Qualifications

  • B.Sc. or M.Sc in Civil or Structural Engineering;
  • Currently registered (or immediately eligible) for registration as a P.Eng with EGBC;
  • A minimum of 15 years of relevant experience coupled with a strong understanding of decision makers and decision processes within key accounts in the BC/Yukon transportation/infrastructure sectors;
  • Familiarity with other transportation sectors in Canada would be considered an asset;
  • Proven project management experience;
  • Proven business development and proposal writing skills;
  • Experience with Public/Private Partnerships and Design Build projects;
  • Construction and post-construction engineering considered an asset;
  • Strong influencing and interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate staff and build/retain a high functioning team; and
  • Strong public speaking and presentation skills will be a definite an asset.
